World eBook Fair, 2007

I had completely forgotten to post about the World eBook Fair, which started a week ago. Both text and audio books are available from July 4th through Aug 4th. Not everything listed is free; a few commercial groups have discounts only.

A fair number of these collections are free from their originators all year long. These include U.S. and other government documents (NASA, Dept. of Energy, FAA, UN, etc.), Project Gutenberg, Renascence Editions, World Public Library, and a variety of international collections. If you want to see the breadth of ebooks available these days (and download a few for your reading/listening pleasure) now is the time to do it.

Copyright restrictions do apply. Be sure to check with the originating group to see if the book will be available later on if any of these look good as textbooks, supplemental reading, or source materials.

This just gets better and better. I have discovered that libraries can purchase audio files to allow library members to download them onto their MP3 players. What a great extension of our existing free library service! I have had a look at the range of titles available, and, being a Youth Services Librarian, was quite impressed with the range of wonderful children's stories.
There is good news for audio book lovers. Being an audio book fan I come across a literary sensation book Possession which won the Booker prize. This is an exhilarating novel of wit and romance. Get your copy at ”Audio Books”.
